AP Chemistry
Welcome to AP Chemistry!!!!!
I am so excited that you have decided to join AP Chemistry. There are a couple of things you need to know to get the year started off well. This class is a very demanding class. Students will be expected to put in many hours of study and out of class preparation to do well in this class. There will be summer work assigned to all AP chemistry students. This work is a detailed review of basic topics from regular chemistry. We need to hit the ground running in the Fall and there will not be time dedicated to reviewing regular chemistry. There is a website that students will print all notes from. No notes will be taken in class so students must have these notes with them when they come to class. This website is www.apchemistrynmsi.wikispaces.com. Students will also find EXCELLENT videos that will go over the notes with them. Students need to take the time to watch these videos for each section. I can be contacted at leslie_freeman@ecboe.org if parents or students need me for any reason.

Summer Work!!!!
1. Know your polyatomic ions.  We have been working on these all year.
2. Print the AP periodic table found on the AP chemistry website. You will not be allowed to use the periodic table from
Pre-AP Chemistry.  www.apchemistrynmsi.wikispaces.com
3. You must review all your naming compounds notes. (acids, basic compounds and organics) You will be expected to
be able to name all compounds and no review will be dedicated to this.
4.  All students need to complete the AP Chemistry notes linked below. These are a review of material we already covered in Pre-AP Chemistry. You can find videos on the nmsi website that go through these notes and work the problems within them. These notes will be due the first week of school for a grade. The key to making a good grade in AP chemistry (besides studying!) is to make sure you complete and get a perfect score on all classwork and homework assignments.
      Chemical Foundations
5. Class Supplies:  pencils, dividers, paper, highlighters, 3" Heavy Duty Binder (we do not have AP Chemistry textbooks so we have to print all our notes and essentially make a book)

There are a number of files and videos on the Pre-AP Chemistry page that you can use for review.
Notes: Notes for this unit need to be printed from the wikispaces website  www.apchemistrynmsi.wikispaces.com. You should have already printed these notes as part of your summer work
