Coach Shane Chappell


Coach Shane Chappell is entering his second year as the Head Baseball Coach at Southside High School.  In Spring of 2019, Coach Chappell and his staff turned around a previously 8-18 team, and led them to a 25-16 record.  The Panthers won the area championship, reached the AHSAA quarterfinals, and was ranked 4th according to the ASWA final poll.  For his efforts, Coach Chappell was named Etowah County Baseball Coach of the Year. Two seniors from the 2019 team signed baseball scholarships to continue their playing careers.


Coach Chappell spent the previous six years as the Head Baseball Coach at Pinson Valley High School.  While at Pinson Valley, Coach Chappell won 134 games, led the Indians to  five area championships, and two semifinal appearances (2013, 2015).  He was named Jefferson County Coach of the Year two times (2013, 2015), and was voted 6A State Coach of the Year in 2015.  During his tenure at Pinson, Coach Chappell helped 36 players further their career to play college baseball.


Before arriving at Pinson Valley, Coach Chappell served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Northwest Shoals Community College.  While at Northwest Shoals, the Patriots won the Northern Division ACCC Championship in 2011 and posted a 24-3 conference record, while also being ranked as high as 11th in the country.  Coach Chappell coached 15 pitchers who went on to play at the Division I and Division II level, and had one pitcher drafted in the 27th Round of MLB Draft


Prior to coaching at Northwest Shoals, Coach Chappell spent one year as the Head Baseball Coach at Corner High School and two years as an assistant at Clay Chalkville High School.  While at Corner, the Yellow Jackets finished the year with a 20-15 record while also winning the area championship. During Coach Chappell’s time at Clay Chalkville, the Cougars were back to back 6A state runner ups.


Coach Chappell played four years of college baseball, two years at Northwest Shoals Community College and two years at the University of North Alabama (UNA).  Coach Chappell was selected as an all conference pitcher at both schools, and set a school record for appearances in a year (2005) at UNA. Coach Chappell prepped at Corner High School where he was an All State in both baseball and basketball. 


Coach Shane Chappell is happily married to the former Alicia Cofield. They have three wonderful children Jordan, Turner, Anna Easton, and one grandchild Lucy Ann.
