Southside High School has been chosen as one of only 200 Alabama 200 Bicentennial Schools for 2018-2019. The Southside High School "Alabama Bicentennial S
chool Oral History Project" will celebrate and record the histories of members of the communities of Southside and Rainbow City (which are the basis of the school's student population.) The faculty and students will work collectively to document, preserve, and celebrate the rich history of the two communities. Students will be assigned alumni of Southside High to interview.

This significant project-based learning experience will help students to develop a stronger sense of community pride. It will also improve the relationship between members of the community, community leaders and the students of Southside High School. Students will be encouraged to attend City Council meetings to learn about the functions and duties of their local government and to encourage their future civic participation. Students will also learn about the needs in their communities and will be encouraged to volunteer for community service projects."

If you have lived have lived in either Southside or Rainbow City for at least 50 years, we would love to interview you about growing up in this area. Please complete the attached form to schedule a date and time to come to the school library to record your interview. You may also call Genia Fry at 256-390-8785 (Monday through Friday after 3:00 p.m.)
