Congratulations to Nurse Kelley Reeves for being selected as Southside High School's Support Personnel of the Year!

1986 Graduate of Hokes Bluff High School
1995 Graduate of Calhoun Community Community College,
Twenty years continuous nursing experience including:
Emergency Room/Trauma, Urgent Care Facility, and School Nursing.
I became a School Nurse for Etowah School System in 2007.   I love school nursing it is often very exciting and challenging.
Schools are faced with new challenges such as communicable diseases, resistant infections and students attending with chronic illness and conditions that require frequent monitoring by a nurse (ie. diabetes, seizure disorders, asthma, heart conditions and severe allergies.) I am honored to be the medical contact and medical care provider helping students become more educated about their health, management, and prevention. By working with teachers and implementing care plans, I help students perform at their highest level in their least restrictive environment. Please call me if your student has health concerns.

Congratulations to Zane Smith for being selected as Southside High School's Teacher of the Year!

This is my seventh year as a Social Studies teacher here at Southside High School.  I graduated from Southside in 1994 and then attended Gadsden State Community College and Jacksonville State University receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.  For eight years, I worked here in Etowah County as a judicial court clerk and jury coordinator.  In 2006, after much thought and prayer, I decided that I wanted to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education so that I could teach high school.  In May 2009, I completed my Masters coursework and received my certification in the area of Social Science. I began working at Southside High School in 2008 as the Distance Learning Facilitator and then in 2010, I was hired as a social studies teacher.  I have a beautiful wife named Lori who is in her fourteenth year of teaching in the Gadsden City School System, teaching first grade at Adams Elementary.  We have two awesome boys, Zander & Shepherd, ages 9 & 5, who attend John Jones Elementary School, and we are expecting a third boy in February 2017.
