I graduated from Southside High School in 1991.  I attended Gadsden State Community College on a softball scholarship.  From GSCC, I transferred to the University of North Alabama where I continued to play softball and earned a bachelors degree in physical education and health, 1996.

My first teaching job was at McBride Middle School in Muscle Shoals, AL.  I coached 7th and 8th grade basketball and volleyball.  In 1998, I came back home to teach here at Southside High School.  During the 15 years I have been teaching at SHS, I have taught PE, health, and coached varsity volleyball, varsity softball and varsity basketball. While coaching volleyball, the SHS volleyball team won 5 county championships, several area and region tournaments and attended the AHSAA Elite Eight 5 years straight finishing 5A State Runner Up twice.  The SHS softball team also won 5 county championships and won several area tournaments and played in some sub-state games.  Also, while coaching basketball the SHS basketball team went from winning very few games to having a 20 win season with the help of some really good athletes and 2 or 3 other coaches that had a hand in their success at an early age.

I am the SHS Lady Panthers Softball Coach and Jakea Griffith, a new hire at John Jones, is my assistant.  Lee Vinson, Dee Ayres and Kenny Fulmer coach my Jr. High program.  I'm so thankful for my softball staff.  We will miss you Coach Ed!!!

I am also the women's volleyball coach at Gadsden State Community College.  Connie Clark, former West End High School volleyball coach, helps me at GSCC.

During my career, I have officiated volleyball on the high school, club and collegiate level.  My mother, Pat Martin, is currently a National Referee, including officiating in the SEC.  She and I have started a club volleyball program in Gadsden for all ages, 8 yrs. old to 18 yrs. old.  Last year we had 14 teams and over 150 girls playing.

Three of my former players are currently teaching and coaching and doing a fabulous job!  They are Haley Ball Simmons - Hokes Bluff, Courtney Brothers Saks, and Dee Ayres - Southside!!
